About the Journal
The Brazilian Journal of Family Therapy (RBTF) is an annual publication of the Brazilian Association of Family Therapy (ABRATEF). Its scope, within the field of Human Sciences, focuses on the subfield of Psychology, specializing in interpersonal relationships. Manuscripts may be submitted in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. RBTF does not charge submission or processing fees.
RBTF's mission and values are to promote, develop, and disseminate scientific knowledge in the field of Family Therapy and interpersonal relationships, encouraging dialogue between different areas of the human sciences. Guided by ethics, transparency, and the valuing of science, the journal seeks to strengthen national and international academic production, contributing to the technical and scientific improvement of researchers and professionals.
RBTF is committed to the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in its practices, aiming to expand knowledge and improve the human condition. The RBTF (Brazilian Journal of Family Therapy) seeks to address systemic inequalities and biases, promote equitable opportunities for authors, and foster an inclusive environment, representing the wide range of people that the Interpersonal Relations community comprises and serves.
Published since 2008, the journal publishes articles that reflect the broad spectrum of current researcher concerns and the most significant debates on issues involving interpersonal relationships, aiming to develop, disseminate, and strengthen Family Therapy nationally and internationally, bringing together professionals from this and other biopsychosocial areas who work in different contexts, with family practices in diverse approaches, aiming at technical-scientific improvement and contributing to expanding knowledge in this area.
Works falling within the scope of the RBTF are published. A continuous publication workflow allows accepted manuscripts to be published immediately (following editing and layout) in the current regular issue, without the need to wait for the completion of the entire issue. The RBTF is published annually, with one volume released per year.
Section editors are guided and motivated to: (1) Improve diversity in the selection of reviewers; (2) Encourage authors to adopt more inclusive citation practices in their decisions; and (3) Promote inclusive language.
The editor-in-chief, attentive to increasing diversity and recognizing the barriers that authors, editors, and reviewers belonging to minorities face in publishing, always seeks to: (1) Avoid discrepancies in the acceptance of articles, focusing on increasing the diversity of authors, reviewers, and editors; (2) Mitigate both the risk and impact of biases in decision-making during the review process; (3) Identify alternative processes to mitigate biases; and (4) Adopt standards for an inclusive culture.
Its editorial policy is based on double-blind peer review, ensuring the anonymity of authors and reviewers during the evaluation process. However, RBTF will progressively offer reviewers and corresponding authors the option to reveal their identities, seeking alignment with open science initiatives.
RBTF is an open-access journal since its inception, meaning that all content is available free of charge to users or their institutions. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without seeking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This complies with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access. Consequently, there are no fees charged for publishing or viewing its content.
RBTF follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding ethical aspects and cases of misconduct and plagiarism in academic publications.
The RBTF offers immediate open access to its content, following the principle of free access and democratization of public access to scientific knowledge, charging no fees for article submission or processing.
Editorial policies regarding the storage and access to RBTF articles in institutional repositories are deposited in Diadorim (Directory of Editorial Policies of Brazilian Scientific Journals).
RBTF adopts an open-access policy that allows authors to deposit various versions of their articles in institutional or thematic repositories. Authors are permitted to deposit the preprint version (submitted manuscript), the manuscript accepted for publication, and the final published version, with no embargo period. This policy aims to enhance the visibility, dissemination, and impact of scientific knowledge produced in the fields of family therapy and interpersonal relationships.
To maximize the dissemination and use of published material, RBTF adopts the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license. Consequently, copyright remains with the authors, while others are permitted to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work—even for commercial purposes—provided that appropriate credit is given.
RBTF employs digital preservation strategies to ensure the continuous access and integrity of its scientific content. To this end, it uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) system, which integrates a distributed digital preservation network among participating libraries.
Furthermore, the journal utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, which creates multiple copies of published files. This enables preservation, retrieval, and restoration in the event of system failures or data loss, thereby ensuring the permanent availability of published content.
To cite the journal in bibliographic references, footnotes, and captions, it is recommended to use the following abbreviation: Rev. Bras. Ter. Fam.
In the Qualis/CAPES system, RBTF is classified as B3 in the Psychology area.
