This review study explores the challenges faced by family members of patients with schizophrenia and emphasizes the vital role of family relationships in the evolution of the clinical condition. It highlights the importance of understanding the disorder and overcoming the stigma families associate with it. The focus is on identifying strategies to tackle these challenges through approaches and dynamics such as family-oriented therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), with an emphasis on CBT due to its recognition for reducing anxiety and modifying dysfunctional thought patterns, as well as its ability to transform the family’s perception and adaptation to the patient’s condition. The importance of providing information and support to families affected by schizophrenia is underscored, highlighting the effectiveness of CBT strategies. The use of these techniques tailored to specific family needs not only strengthens support for the patient but also enhances family cohesion, creating a more understanding environment to face the daily challenges related to the condition. Therefore, this study underscores the relevance of the CBT therapeutic approach for families, aiming to foster understanding of schizophrenia and offering practical tools to cope with challenges, seeking to improve the quality of life for both the patient and their caregivers.
