In the last decade, we have witnessed a major revolution in the midst of internet-driven communication, changes in the pattern of sexual behavior and choice of partners between young people and young adults, the insertion of women into positions previously occupied only by men, expansion of professional requirements for entry into the labor market and reorganization of the way the family defines itself. The family, with its immense capacity for adaptation, has been changing without ceasing to fulfill structured and defining functions to guarantee the protection and care of the new generations and their social function of transmitting standards and norms. In this brief article we aim to discuss, through a literature review, how this adaptation has occurred within the family that is beginning, which is still constituted only by the couple, at the time of the arrival of the third member: the first child. We conclude that although changes have occurred in gender roles over the past few years, the arrival of the child is an element that expands the difference of these roles.
