Abstract

This article describes the theory, the strategies and the procedures of “Separated Parents Therapy”. This is an intervention done for parents who are either in the process of separation or who are already divorced. However, the main emphasis of this article are the interventions done for parents who are in the process of litigation for chile custody. Normally, litigation of custody in this manner is due to a conflictive break-up of parents relationship which is conducive to suffering for the whole family. It is the children who are the primary affected party and who suffer the biggest emotional consequences of this dispute. The Therapy of Separated Parents is a proposal that the author of this article proposes from her own clinical practice on cases of these type which are in their majority parallel or in conjunction to court hearings in Bogotá, Colombia. The objective of this therapy is to arrive to an “amicable” relationship between the parents where the love for their children, the well-being of the family and the personal tranquility of each of the parents are key for this change.
