Scientific Article Competition
The Brazilian Journal of Family Therapy (RBTF), in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Family Therapy (ABRATEF), invites students, therapists, researchers, and professionals working with families, couples, and groups to participate in the Scientific Article Competition – Call for Papers No. 01/2026.
This is an opportunity to share knowledge, promote visibility for professional practices, and contribute to scientific production in Family Therapy, expanding dialogue across different fields and professional contexts.
The winning articles will be recognized during the 16th Brazilian Congress of Family Therapy, to be held in October 2027.
Submissions open from April to December 2026.

Why participate?
The competition aims to:
- foster scientific writing among students and professionals;
- expand the scientific collection of the Brazilian Journal of Family Therapy;
- support emerging researchers who do not yet have experience with scientific publication;
- promote visibility for Family Therapy practices and professionals;
- strengthen interdisciplinary exchange and the sharing of knowledge.
In addition, all articles approved through the scientific evaluation process will be published in the RBTF, regardless of their final ranking in the competition.
Who can participate?
The competition includes three categories:
Category I – Aspiring Authors
Students from training institutes accredited by ABRATEF, in co-authorship with an advisor.
Category II – Full Members
Full Members of the 12 ABRATEF Regional Chapters, including trained and accredited therapists.
Category III – Collaborators
- Professionals from other institutions who develop work with families;
- Undergraduate and graduate students from institutes not accredited by ABRATEF, in co-authorship with an advisor.
What topics can be submitted?
The competition includes five thematic areas:
Area 1 – Contemporary Clinical Practice
Individual, couple, and family approaches, with an emphasis on systemic, collaborative, narrative, dialogical, constructivist, and constructionist practices.
Area 2 – Diversity and Relational Processes
Couples and families in their multiple configurations, gender, sexuality, multiculturalism, and intersectionality.
Area 3 – Groups and Collectives
Group therapy, community groups, collectives, and social support networks.
Area 4 – Institutions and Public Policies
Practice in institutional and community settings and in public policies aimed at families.
Area 5 – Training, Ethics, and Scientific Production
Reflections on professional training, ethics, methodological innovations, and knowledge production.
Submission Guidelines
To participate, articles must:
- be original and unpublished;
- not be simultaneously submitted to another journal or competition;
- comply with the editorial guidelines of the Brazilian Journal of Family Therapy;
- be submitted within the period established in the competition schedule.
The competition accepts contributions from national and international authors.
Important: Articles that do not comply with the RBTF's editorial guidelines will not be forwarded for evaluation and will be automatically excluded from the competition.

Awards
The first-place article in each category will receive:
- Certificate of authorship and formal award ceremony at the 16th Brazilian Congress of Family Therapy (2027);
- Certificate of Honorary Merit for the winning authors;
- Certificate of approval and participation for all authors whose articles are published;
- Possibility of a registration fee waiver or discount for the Congress for the winners, subject to approval by the ABRATEF Executive Board.
